Event-Meaning-Reaction

Event
Life is basically a continuous succession of events.

Meaning
Our mind receives data from each event through our senses. The sensory data has no inherent meaning (heat on my fingertips, fast heartbeat, a visual image, a sound, a smell, a taste). Our mind assigns meaning to the data. WHile the data is always true, the meaning is subject to truth verification. When we "change our mind" it's really a re-interpretation of the meaning we previously assigned to an event.

Reaction
Our reactions are hence NOT determined by the data (the event), but the meaning our mind assigns to everything. Many reactions are hardwired through our DNA, others are learned from past experience. Most of our emotional reactions are not under our immediate control, much as we would like to be able to control our emotions and feelings.
