Blogging with Community Server

FRONTPAGE IS OK
OK, so you may as well know that I am a reseller for web hosting services. It's not that I am making any money off it, but it enables me to help friends with cheap web sites and web mastering services. I try to go for ease and speed of implementation, rather than web sites that look sharp.

One of the sites I am very proud of is at http://www.MoreToLifeRMR.org which did not take very long to implement using FrontPage from Microsoft as the web authoring tool. The trick was in the pcitures at the top. That's what I think made it look professional. The rest of the art work was provided by one of the templates that came with FrontPage. ANother thing I like about FrontPage is that the navigation structure and page banners (titles) are automatically generated. I am not a big artist and any art work that's automatically created is fine with me.

Compared to DreamWeaver by MacroMedia, or some of the more expensive solutions for web authoring, FrontPage may not be as fancy or full-featured, but easy of use is what I need, not hours trying to get a simple web site up and running.

BLOGGING
My Marrrek.com web site I created by buying a template that looked cool, around $40 from a web site specializing in web templates. I love the look and layout but it's missing bloggin capability (a "blog" for you non-geeks is short for "web log" which is kind of like an online diary for exhibitionists. You can write to your own blog on whatever topic you fancy, and hope that somebody else in the world can find your web site and is interested in reading what you have to say in your blog.

COMMUNITY SERVER
Adding blogging capacilities to a web site usually requires some programming, but there are packages on the market that provide all of this. My web site host actually provides for free a package called Community Server, which you can find at http://CommunityServer.org if you want to install it on your own web site.

I've not figured out all the features of the package, but here is the first installment: my first blog entry, which you are reading !
